Hey! I just got a bollock load of money that I never thought I would get back (especially at 1 in the morning). Now with this unexpected income, I can finally get myself some wheels! Huzzah!

Kinja'd!!!

*Sigh* looks like I’m topping up my bus pass in the morning.

That is indeed quite high. I was paying the equivalent when I first purchased my (first) car. Does insurance work the same way over there where the more “accident free” years you have, the lower the rate drops?

Yeah we have no claims bonuses but they aren’t worth much. Usually around 5%-10% which sucks because that’s less than 12%.

There are a lot of myths about London insurance. Firstly that 25 is some magical age where expensive insurance is a thing of the last and that after your first year you get a massive reduction for proving you can drive in London without claiming.

Problem is I can’t find anything to prove or disprove either myth. All in all, I’m debating whether or not just to say fuck it and eat the costs to find out. Plenty of fun cars that I can get for under £500 which helps.

I think its a comination of it being the v8 and that Im a 20y/o male. It is also full insurance and Im not sure how that equates to coverage in other countries. Are there different levels of coverage or is it just one rate for you?

Yeah we have 3 levels. Comprehensive, third party & third party with fire & theft. The difference between them is minimal cost wise so it’s best to get comprehensive.

By full insurance do you mean unlimited third party liability? That’s compulsory anywhere in the EU.

You can get a running car for under £500? That’s ridiculously cheap.

Yeah but they get shit economy or lack air conditioning which means they make poor dailys hence the shitload of RX8s, 330is, MX5s & Saxos.

Actually, that’s not too bad. I thought it was less than it is. £500 is about $1000 CAD which could buy you these:

And many many early 2000s civics.

I’ve often found comprehensive to be cheaper actually.

It does get better. For the past few years for me it’s actually gotten affordable enough to run two cars insurance-wise. It’s just painful accruing the first few years no-claims
